Transition Specialist - (WAT)

 JOB TITLE:   Transition Specialist – (WAT)

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:     Coordinator, Transition Services 

POSITION REPORTS:              None 

JOB SUMMARY: 

Functions as a vocational instructor for local high school students in the transitional school-to-work program. Facilitates the work adjustment program by utilizing the transitional curriculum coupled with paid work experience training. Completes all necessary paperwork and reports regarding employment services for the student.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Determines strengths and barriers that individual student possesses in order to provide appropriate training for future vocational success.

Models retail and processing tasks for the student, using the techniques required by the organization.

Assures that employer quality and quantity standards are learned by fully training the students to perform all aspects of the retail and donated goods jobs.

Instructs students with reinforcement for positive vocational behavior and promotes social interactions with customers, co-workers and management. Instructs student on proper communication skills and positive work attitudes.

Completes documentation of student’s performance towards completion of goals, monthly reports to referral and funding entities, vocational assessments of individuals served and incident/accident reports as necessary.

Assists in completion of payroll documentation for the student each pay period.

Responsible for filing documentation and paperwork, with assistance of Community Services Assistant. Provides quality assurance for individual files.Files all pertinent documentation and paperwork in files following index guidelines.

Teaches students utilizing the organization’s work adjustment curriculum.

Networks with local assigned school personnel and funding source staff to obtain student referrals and maintains open communications for the success of the students.

Uses various methods, such as telephone, email, visits in person with student’s parents/guardians to maintain open communication for the success of the student.

Collaborates with retail and processing management to utilize and share the work environment during the work experience portion of the training.

Reviews and is familiar with Company safety policies, programs and procedures.Adheres to all safety rules, regulations and safety codes, and attends safety training sessions and safety meetings.Maintains current certifications in First Aid and CPR and administers First Aid and CPR as required.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Attends IEP meetings in the capacity of a vocational training professional and reports on progress of service recipient, as well as plans for future service needs.

Maintains secure environment by following safety procedures of the organization.

Other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL CONTRACTUAL REQUIREMENTS:             

Must be at least 21 years old.

Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license, with a good driving record.

Must maintain appropriate requirements for legal vehicle operation, including current automobile insurance inspection, and license plate.

Must be eligible for a positive outcome on required State of Oklahoma criminal conviction background check.

Must maintain Goodwill’s Drug-Free Workplace.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

High school graduate, minimum age of 21, with ability to pass required competency-based training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Climbing, balancing, talking, hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, seeing, and depth perception.

Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling: Medium Work - Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
