Spirit to serve this MLK Jr. holiday

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday has become a day of service for many communities. Alongside the commemorative events and celebrations are volunteer projects, offering people a chance to help their neighbors. In this way, we honor King’s philosophy of being a force for social good and social change. 

“When people are serving, life is no longer meaningless," said John W. Gardner, former Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare and founder of Common Cause.

How and where can you lend a hand?

1. RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) of Tulsa can use volunteers to help pack boxes of donated household items tomorrow (Friday) morning. 918-280-8656

2. January is National Mentoring Month. Find a local organization that needs mentors. www.nationalmentoringmonth.org

3. On Monday, help out with the MLK Parade in Tulsa. www.mlktulsa.org

4. Goodwill has ongoing volunteer opportunities in our processing department at 2800 SW Blvd., stores such as Garnett, Broken Arron and Stone Creek, some donation centers.
