Hard Goods Supervisor

I.     JOB SUMMARY:

 

Responsible for supervising the processing of donated goods in the Wares, Books, Electronics, and Furniture departments.   

 

II.    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.    Schedules and organizes processing operations in assigned departments to maximize production   of materials for shipment to retail stores according to established procedure.

2.    Conducts interviews for potential employees in departments supervised and effectively recommends which candidates should be hired

3.         Trains, supervises and conducts performance evaluations for employees in assigned departments.

4.       Consults with Human Resources and the Processing Coordinator on hiring, employee discipline, discharge and other employment issues.

5.      Monitors activities of each assigned department to ensure that department Lead and employees follow processing procedures assuring a smooth work flow.

6.        Monitors pricing of materials to ensure pricing guidelines are being followed.

7.        Prepares and submits required reports accurately and as scheduled.

8.        Conducts regular training sessions for sorters and Lead in assigned departments.

9.        Responsible for safety and performance records in assigned departments.

10.    Makes supplies available to assigned departments and requisitions supplies in a timely manner, according to procedure, to prevent slowdown in production.

11.   Confers daily with the Processing Coordinator regarding work flow, reserve inventory, possible problems, suggested solutions and methods to improve operations.

12.    Performs required tasks when necessary for absent employees.

13.    Maintains good housekeeping standards in all departments supervised.

14.    In the absence of his/her supervisor, follows, enforces and provides training to ensure that all safety policies, rules and regulations are followed.  Completes and submits any necessary forms and/or reports immediately, but no longer than within 24 hours, when an incident occurs.  Maintains current certifications in First Aid and CPR and administers First Aid and CPR if required.

 

III.        OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

 

1.    May supervise sheltered employees, rehabilitation trainees, clients and volunteers in assigned departments, conferring with Workforce Development staff in evaluating the progress of persons employed in these areas.

2.        Other duties as assigned.

 

IV.      OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

         Related work experience is required. Supervisory experience in a production-type environment is preferred.  Training is on-the-job for a period of up to three (3) months.

 

V.        PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

            Balancing, talking, hearing, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering and seeing, depth perception and color vision.

          Lifting/Carrying:  Medium Work: Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

          Pushing/Pulling:  Heavy work--Pushing/Pulling 100 lbs. maximum with frequent pushing/pulling    of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
