No Cost Financial Management Assistance August through September 2020

Through a grant from the national Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund) The City of Tulsa and Goodwill are providing a Financial Navigator service to help residents deal with the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Financial Navigators will provide structured guidance over the phone by summarizing financial issues, identifying immediate action steps, and making referrals to other services. Request an appointment by calling the 2-1-1 Helpline or complete the web form here. Financial Navigators can help individuals with loss of job, credit card or other debts, food and housing, health, and skills training and job search.

Financial Coaching Program-Coming Fall 2020

Through a grant from the national Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund), the City of Tulsa is partnering with Goodwill Industries of Tulsa to bring free, professional, one-on-one financial counseling as a public service through the creation of a Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) in Tulsa. The FEC is scheduled to open later this year. Details to come, but you can learn more about the effort here. 

Free Income Tax Preparation

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and help eligible individuals and families save money by avoiding unnecessary trips to paid preparers.

VITA: If your household income is $56,000 or less, you are eligible to have your federal and state income taxes prepared at no cost through the Internal Revenue Service's VITA program. Goodwill is now overseeing the program locally. Goodwill VITA tax preparation services are provided virtually. The summer site is open until September 25. For details, click here MyFreeTaxes is a free and easy way for anyone of any income to file simple returns. Users can file simple federal and up to three simple state returns for free. Simple tax situations covered for free in MyFreeTaxes include: W-2 income; limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV; student education expenses, credits or student loan interest; unemployment income; claiming the standard deduction; EITC; child tax credits; child and dependent care expenses.
